Website Remodel and other Updates in 2015

January 16, 2015 by Tansey Louis Leave a Comment

It’s a new year and 2015 has brought interesting changes for us here in the Bahamas. Top on the list for many is VAT (I had to mention that in there 🙂 ). But here at the Student Shed, the top of our list is the website “reconstruction”’.  I use the term ‘reconstruction’ because we’ve made changes to the design and to the function of the site. All in all, the goal is make your experience more user friendly and exceptional. What are these changes? Let’s get right into it.

1. New Website Re-design

A new site design has been on the drawing board for over year now and I’ve finally gotten around to putting it in place. The new layout is more modern and hopefully more user friendly.  You can now log onto the site using your tablets or smart phones and get full response.

2. Memberships

Why did we make it a membership site? People come in and out of this site on a daily basis leaving comments, suggestions, and questions related to exams. Although I try, I am unable to respond as quickly as I would like to every question. I also believe that you can learn a lot more in a community setting.  So why not have parents, teachers and students all in one place? With this is mind, the Student Shed has evolved into an exclusive (albeit free) online community whose members can interact with persons of similar academic goals. As a member you can make new friends, ask questions and share resources. A great place to start is  to post a comment in the forums or start sending friend requests.

3. Exam Past Paper Answers

It used to be that in order to purchase all of the past paper answers for a particular subject, you would have to undergo several different checkout processes with Paypal. Not so anymore. Instead of checking out each past paper individually, you can purchase the entire Answer Bundle in one checkout process (for a discounted rate I might add).  So no more going back and forth between here and paypal in order to get all the answers you need.

Answer Bundles

Also in the past, for users who did not have credit cards and preferred to make bank payments, there was a bit of a struggle to manually set them up to view the answers. The system we used was not user friendly at all. For some people, this meant long telephone conversations where I walked you through the system. But that is done away with. We can now accept bank payments and get you set up manually and easily. Once we receive a record of your payment, getting you set up is a much simpler process.

4. Blank Past Papers

In the past, when you downloaded BJC and BGCSE blank past papers, there were restrictions on what you could do with the papers. But now, the papers are fully editable which means you can answer the questions directly on the electronic document, on your computer. This is definitely something that should have been in place from the start. My apologies for the oversight. Additionally, as a member, you have exclusive access to these papers. Simply log in and download.

5. New Online Course

This year we opened enrollment to a new BJC course, Health Science. Our next health science session will be live and is scheduled to begin on Wednesday January 21. We will meet every Wednesday at 6:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. for 16 sessions. We are covering all of the topics on the ministry of education health science curriculum. Students will be given assignments which will be marked by the teacher. Also, they will enjoy personal guidance as they prepare to sit the BJC Health Science exam.

Because all of the classes are recorded, you won’t miss a lesson. For example, let’s say you enrolled 1 month after the class begins, you will have access to the previous month’s class recordings and the the existing live classes for as long as you are enrolled. Click here If you want to know more about this.

So that’s about it for now. I’d love to hear what you think about the updates and whether or not they can be of help to you. Whatever recommendations you have, feel free to share. Until next time. Bye for now!
